Session 1: Drive Start: Licensing & Risk Essentials

Description This session will cover the foundational elements of driving in Victoria, including the Graduated Licensing System (GLS), the process of obtaining a learner permit, and crucial initial road safety principles focused on risk reduction. (Covers pages 7-12, 21-24, 29-32)

Agenda:

  1. GLS Overview (10 mins): Explanation of the 3 stages (Learner, P1, P2) and the system's purpose in reducing new driver crash risk.

  2. Learner Permit Acquisition (15 mins): Details on minimum age (16+ years), test components (eyesight, computerised knowledge), and permit validity (10 years).

  3. Learner Permit Conditions (15 mins): Discussion on strict rules: L-plates display (visible from 20 meters), zero Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC), continuous supervision by a full licence holder, and mobile phone prohibition.

  4. Understanding Driving Risk (10 mins): Highlights on why new drivers are 3 times more likely to be involved in casualty crashes.

  5. Impact of Speed (10 mins): Insights into how speed contributes to almost 20% of fatal crashes.

  6. Q&A (10 mins): Opportunity for initial questions and clarifications.

The sessions were incredibly informative and engaging. I feel much more confident on the road now. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve their driving skills!
